Congratulations to Naomi Heffer, one of our altar servers from Kidlington, who was confirmed by Bishop John last Sunday. Seven people were confirmed during the service at St Mary's Church, Kidlington, on the evening of the Feast of Christ the King. May God continue to bless and support them on their Christian journey.16th November - Kidlington
The chapter met on the evening of Sunday, 16th November to sing the Guild Office and offer prayers for the departed members of the chapter.
The service commenced with a recitation of the Angelus and concluded with the names of the members, supporters and priests who had been associated with the chapter. Revd William Whyte led the worship and preached. In his address, Fr William traced the origins of the church's practice of praying for the dead drawing its inspiration from the Jewish Kaddish, the mourning prayer.
Our thanks to the people of St John's for welcoming the chapter once again and for providing refreshments afterwards.
Present: Ken Belcher, Dennis Dean, Kim Clowsley, Stan Goodwin, Trevor Langrish, Robert Warren, Ben Heffer, Jim Curtis, Frank Howlett, William Whyte, Hilary Campbell, Angela Dean, Jenney Dowdeswell, Barbara Belcher, Susan Greenaway, Rhona Warren.

We are grateful to Revd Jim Turner for welcoming the chapter to Hampton Poyle once again and for officiating. In his sermon, Fr Jim spoke about John Keeble and the other founders of the Oxford Movement and compared the church to a ship, with people on board with different experiences and different views of faith yet all travelling together towards a common goal. During the service prayer was offered in thanksgiving for the catholic revival in the Church of England. The service concluded with the Te Deum Laudamus.

Secretary's Report 2008
The chapter roll stands at 30. This is made up of 19 members, 10 life members and 1 associate member. Last year the roll was 34 and in 2006 the roll was 39. So we have a falling roll. Additionally, there have been no new applications for membership in 2007/8.
In January, we heard the sad news that our long standing member and dear friend Jack Webster had died. Bro Jack had been a member of the GSS since 1973 and was a faithful servant of sanctuary. We note too, with sadness, the loss of Revd Tony Knox, who died in November, who was known to many of our members here in Kidlington and assisted with the GSS on occasions.
At the last AGM we resolved to meet four times a year and restrict our activities to Kidlington. Accordingly, we have met three times since the last AGM.
In May, we sung the Guild Office in honour of Our Lady's Month of May in St Mary’s Church, Hampton Poyle. Fr Jim Turner gave the address and Sr Jenny Dowdeswell was admitted as a full member of the GSS before the service. 19 people were present.
In September, the chapter celebrated its 90th Anniversary with a special service of Guild Office and Benediction in St John's Church, Kidlington. The officiant and preacher was the chaplain, Revd Jason St John Nicolle. The meeting which was held close to St Birinus day (4th Sept) was fairly well attended. 23 people attended.
In November, we met here in St Mary’s Church, Kidlington for Guild Office & Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament with prayers for the departed members and supporters of the chapter. Revd Canon Anthony Ellis gave the address. Afterwards a chapter meeting was convened to agree Group 9 nominations to General Council, when it was resolved to support Cllr Clive Tilling’s candidacy to serve for a further term. 17 people attended.
I am grateful to our chaplain, Revd Jason St John Nicolle for officiating at our services during the year and to the parish clergy of Kidlington, who have welcomed us to the churches here and preached for us. Thank you especially to the rector, Canon Anthony Ellis for officiating this evening.
Fr Jason sends his apologies this evening as he has now left the parish of Kidlington and is on holiday before taking up his new position of Rector of the Churn Benefice. We wish him well in his new parish. Fr Jason is willing to continue as our chaplain although he is reluctant to officiate in the parish of Kidlington now that he has officially left. This presents a problem for us and we need to consider who will lead our worship going forward.
Thank you to all who support our services especially Prof David Murray, who plays the organ so well for us and to Bro Trevor Langrish our MC and for his invaluable work as our chapter treasurer.

Treasurer's Report 2008
2007 was a quiet year for the chapter's finances, which are healthy - income was £118.74 (£13.74 up on that for 2006). Expenditure was 326.20 (£251.85 down on that for 2006) but does not include Secretary's expenses (to be included in this year's balance sheet). This decrease has occurred also because there has been neither the expense of a new cope for the chapter chaplain nor the cost of organising a young servers' sleepover - both of which happened in 2006. The deposit account remains untouched and is accumulating interest - the balance on it is currently £1,143.45. This leads to our total assets for the end of 2007 being £1,459.03.
I still enjoy being chapter treasurer and am willing to continue.
Membership subscriptions and magazine subscriptions are being collected centrally by direct debit and should no longer be paid to me. However, I would gratefully receive any chapter donations.
Finally, I would like to thank Bro Ben Hefferfor all his hard work as chapter secretary. I would also like to thank, in his absence, Fr Dennis Mason for auditing the accounts for 2007, thereby checking that I am doing business correctly. Bro Trevor Langrish.

Revd Jason St John Nicolle
Congratulations to Revd Jason St John Nicolle on his appointment to the ministerial team in the Churn Benefice. The benefice, located close to Didcot, includes a number of churches in the villages of Aston, Blewbury, Hagbourne, North & South Moreton and Upton.
Fr Jason has been serving his curacy in the Kidlington Team since 2004 and has officiated as Chaplain of St Birinus Chapter since November 2005. He leaves Kidlington at the end of February and takes up his new position in April.
On behalf of all our members and supporters we wish Jason and his wife Miranda all the very best for their continuing ministry.

Jack Webster
We are sorry to report the death of Bro Jack Webster who passed away on 8th January aged 91. Bro Jack was a faithful member of St Barnabas Church and of this chapter for many years and frequently served at the altar in the capacity of MC or thurifer at Guild meetings. Jack joined the GSS in 1973 and served on the chapter committee for many years as the publicity secretary. He worked at the Bodleian Library from 1935 until his retirement in 1985; his wife Phylis predeceased him in November 2006.
Jack's funeral mass was held at St Barnabas' Church, Oxford on Thursday, 24th January.
Please remember him and his family in your prayers. + May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
