20th July - Blewbury

The chapter met to sing the Guild Office in the beautiful church of St Michael, Blewbury on the evening of 20th July. The officiant and preacher was Revd Jason St John Nicolle, the Rector of the Churn Benefice. In his sermon, Fr Jason spoke of St Margaret of Antioch, whose feast day it was, and the legend of her being eaten by a monster but which couldn’t swallow her because she was holding a cross. He reminded us that if we remain faithful to the cross we too will overcome evil. After the service, we enjoyed refreshments and took the opportunity to explore the church and learn more about its interesting features.

Before we left, Fr Jason set us the challenge of naming the seven archangels depicted in the east window of the church; answers on a postcard!

Our thanks to Fr Jason for welcoming us to Blewbury once again and to Prof. David Murray for playing the organ.

Present: Revd Jason St John Nicolle; Bros. Trevor Langrish, Dennis Dean, Bruce Armour, Ken Belcher and Ben Heffer; Srs. Susan Greenaway, Angela Dean, Jenny Dowdeswell and six friends and supporters.
