1st September - St Barnabas, Oxford
The chapter met on 1st September for Guild Office, Sermon and Benediction in St Barnabas' Church, Jericho to celebrate its feast of title. We are grateful to the Vicar, Revd Jonathan Beswick, for welcoming us to St Barnabas and for preaching. Revd William Whyte officiated for the Guild Office, after which we held a procession with the chapter banner in honour of St Birinus using the Hymn of St Berin writen by Canon Barton. In his sermon, Fr Jonathan impressed upon us the importance of focused dedication and devotion in worship and serving at the altar drawing analogies from sport and the lives of the saints. He also showed us a photograph of Fr Bisdee, one time vicar of the parish and founder of our chapter. Fr Jonathan concluded the service by giving Benediction. Afterwards we enjoyed some welcome refreshments kindly provided by the people of St Barnabas.
